Share
Join us for a picturesque weekend getaway in Mevagissey, Cornwall where we hiked from our campsite to the charming Mevagissey Harbour and met up our daughter for a boat cruise along the stunning Cornish Coast.
Mevagissey Harbour, located in the picturesque village of Mevagissey in Cornwall, boasts a rich history that dates back to medieval times. Originally a small fishing village, Mevagissey grew in importance due to its thriving pilchard fishing industry, which peaked in the 18th and 19th centuries. The harbour itself was constructed in the 15th century and underwent significant expansions in the 18th century to accommodate the increasing number of fishing vessels. The inner harbour, built in 1774, and the outer harbour, completed in 1888, reflect the village's maritime heritage.
Today, Mevagissey Harbour remains a working fishing port, home to a fleet of small fishing boats, and serves as a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore the quaint streets, enjoy fresh seafood, and experience the village's timeless charm. The harbour's blend of historical significance and scenic beauty makes it a captivating spot on the Cornish coast.
